What is the reason why air cooled industrial chiller do not return oil?

When the return oil of air-cooled industrial refrigerators is not smooth, it is very headache. Generally speaking, the main reason for the poor return oil of air-cooled industrial refrigerators is due to the gas mixture phenomenon of lubricating oil and refrigerant during operation.

During the operation of the refrigeration system, encountering the mutual solubility of refrigerant and refrigerator lubricating oil can cause the lubricating oil in the refrigeration compressor to be discharged into the condenser in the form of mist and droplets along with the machine operation. If the oil separator is not effective or the system design is not good, it will cause poor separation effect and poor system oil return. Of course, the premise is that you have not used fake oil.

Poor oil return in air-cooled industrial refrigerators can lead to a large amount of lubricating oil being trapped in the evaporator pipeline. When the oil film increases by 0.1mm, it directly affects the cooling of the system. On the other hand, the machine is unable to operate due to oil shortage and needs to be continuously replenished with lubricating oil. This can lead to an accumulation of lubricating oil in the system, causing a vicious cycle, increasing operating costs, and reducing operational reliability. In general, it is allowed for the oil gas mixture to circulate in the system with a refrigerant gas flow rate of less than 1%.

There are two ways to return oil to the compressor, one is through the oil separator, and the other is through the return pipe. The oil separator is installed on the exhaust pipeline of the compressor and can generally separate 50-95% of the pump oil. The oil return effect is good, the speed is fast, and the amount of oil entering the system pipeline is greatly reduced, thereby effectively extending the operation time without oil return.

It is not uncommon for cold storage refrigeration systems with particularly long pipelines, full liquid refrigeration systems, and freeze-drying equipment with very low temperatures to not return oil for more than ten or even tens of minutes after startup, or for systems with very little oil return. Poorly designed systems can cause the compressor to shut down due to low oil pressure. Installing an efficient oil separator in this refrigeration system can greatly prolong the compressor’s oil return free operation time, Make the compressor safely pass the crisis stage of no oil return after starting up.

In short, the lack of oil in air-cooled industrial refrigerators can cause serious lubrication deficiencies. The fundamental reason for the lack of oil is not the amount and speed of pump oil in air-cooled industrial refrigerators, but rather the poor system oil return. Installing an efficient oil separator can quickly return oil and extend the compressor’s oil free operation time. The design of the evaporator and return pipeline must take into account the return oil. Maintenance measures such as avoiding frequent start-up, timed defrosting, timely refrigerant replenishment, and timely replacement of vulnerable parts can also help with oil return.
