What are the Requirements for Adding Refrigerant to Industrial Chillers?

After the industrial chiller has passed the vacuum test, if there is no problem, then the refrigerant can be added, but what are the requirements for adding refrigerant?

If it is a newly installed system, you can add refrigerant from the high-pressure side, and the adding method is as follows:

  1. Turn on the condenser to use the cooling water system, and pay attention to keep the valves in the system as they were during the vacuum test.
  2. Use seamless steel pipes or copper pipes to connect the container with refrigerant. Note that the mouth of the container should be inclined downward at a certain angle.
  3. Open the charging valve. Once the pressure inside the system reaches a certain level, you need to stop adding refrigerant, and then check each connected part to see if there is any leakage. If not, you can continue to add refrigeration agent.
  4. Close the liquid outlet valve on the liquid receiver and continue to charge the refrigerant. Once the pressure and the internal pressure of the liquid receiver are at the equilibrium position, open the liquid outlet valve on the liquid receiver.
  5. Turn on the industrial chiller, let its refrigeration device enter the running state, and then continue to add refrigerant. Once frost appears on the mouth of the refrigerant bottle, it means that it is about to be filled.
  6. When filling the refrigerant in normal times, it is not necessary to heat the refrigerant container to increase its internal pressure, unless in winter when the temperature is relatively low, hot water can be properly poured.
  7. When the filled refrigerant reaches 90% of the charging amount, you can generally stop adding and let the system run to see if it is running normally, so as to avoid filling too much refrigerant.

If it is an old refrigeration system, when adding refrigerant, it can be filled from the low-pressure side.
