Working Principle and Characteristics of Air-cooled Chiller and Water-cooled Chiller

In the refrigeration industry, chillers can be divided into air-cooled chillers and water-cooled chillers. According to the compressor, they are divided into screw chillers, scroll chillers, and centrifugal chillers. In terms of temperature control, it is divided into low-temperature industrial chiller and normal temperature chiller. The temperature of the normal temperature unit is generally controlled within the range of 0 degrees to 35 degrees. The temperature control of the low-temperature unit is generally around 0 degrees to -120 degrees. Let’s take a closer look at the working principle and characteristics of air-cooled chillers and water-cooled chillers.

  1. Air-cooled chiller

working principle:
The air-cooled chiller uses the shell-and-tube evaporator to exchange heat between the water and the refrigerant. The refrigerant system absorbs the heat load in the water and cools the water to produce cold water. Then, the heat is brought to the finned condenser through the action of the compressor. Then it is lost to the outside air by the cooling fan.

Features:
(1) The air-cooled chiller adopts a large-capacity condenser, which can be easily operated even when it is hot.
(2) Air-cooled chillers are most suitable for areas with poor water quality, and can save other accessories for cooling towers.
(3) The air-cooled chiller does not need to be installed with a cooling water tower, and is suitable for environments with poor impurities (impurities are easily mixed into the cooling water tower, and dust will cause blockage of the cooling water circulation circuit, resulting in a decrease in cooling capacity).

  1. Water-cooled chiller

working principle:
The water-cooled chiller uses the shell-and-tube evaporator to exchange heat between the water and the refrigerant. The refrigerant system absorbs the heat load in the water and cools the water to produce cold water. The heat is brought to the shell-and-tube condenser by the action of the compressor. The refrigerant exchanges heat with the water, so that the water absorbs the heat and then takes it out of the external cooling tower through the water pipe to dissipate it.

Features:
